Richmond House is home to eight full-time residents.
The length of stay varies based on each individual’s need. After moving in, the resident’s team (resident, parent/guardian, counselor, and program manager) works together to develop the resident’s Individualized Resident Transition Plan (IRTP). This comprehensive plan delineates goals in areas such as:
- Economic self-sufficiency
- Community integration
- Household responsibilities
- Social competence
- Personal care
The plan for achieving these goals provide steps to each resident in a detailed outline, which will help guide him or her into successful independent living. In order to acquire the tools and confidence needed to gain a true sense of self-governance and independent living, residents utilize person-centered planning in conjunction with staff support, while living in an organized community setting that is centered on setting and reaching goals.
Each resident is required to be actively seeking or gainfully employed, volunteering,
and/or enrolled in post-secondary education. We understand these areas can present significant challenges to someone with an ASD. At Richmond House, we find pathways to success through in-house training activities, role-playing for job interviews, and collaboration with other service providers in the community. Socially, we encourage and facilitate participation in meaningful activities (bowling league, social clubs, art workshops, etc.) within the community to continue growth and development.
Perhaps the best kept secret of Richmond House is its camaraderie. The house is full of laughter, friendships, and fun. A look at our calendar reveals birthday parties, field trips, and even vacations!
All of our residents enjoy their very own en-suites and spacious common areas, including a living room and fully equipped kitchen with an eat-in dining area.
Richmond House is located in an established and supportive neighborhood in the Willow Lawn area of Richmond’s West End. Due to its convenient location, residents can walk to work, nearby volunteer opportunities, grocery stores, entertainment, restaurants, a shopping mall, and public transportation.
